Whispers Through the Spinifex: Memories of Mount Isa in the Making is a collection of writer Kim-Maree Burton’s articles, which have featured in the Saturday edition of the North West Star newspaper (Fairfax Media) from 2012.

 

From the obscure to the mainstream, Kim-Maree covers many chapters of Mount Isa’s rich history: the early beginnings of the township; the origins of local traditions and events; the founding of Mount Isa service clubs and businesses; and how the influence of the multicultural community helped to shape the town.

 

Accompanied by historical photos, each story illustrates the unique lifestyle and personality of the Mount Isa community; a town that developed around the mine site.
